For our spring final we were assigned to make a 90 second to 2 minute video with a focus on:
From the start I decided that I wanted to do a how-to video since I don't particularly like filming in public places and don't have a sense of humor sarcastic enough for a what-not-to-do video. I originally had some ideas for making fun of Hollywood's obsession with remaking classics, but decided it would be too difficult to create b-roll for a video on that subject.
I eventually just decided to do a how-to video covering the basic act of creating an almond butter banana sandwich. This video was relatively easy as I was the only person working on it and could work at my own pace. This was a nice sort of break from the ads and short films I've done recently which involved a lot of other people. The shot that I thought was the most interesting to create is the close up of me lying in bed and staring at the ceiling. Since I couldn't set up the tripod over my chest and there wasn't anyone to hold the camera over me, I draped a blanket over a door and leaned back on a pillow to make it appear as if I was actually lying down.
Well I've had a great year developing my skills and expanding to work on new types of videos. Hope you've enjoyed my videos as much as I've enjoyed making them. See you in the fall!
