For my next project I decided that I wanted to do a short film. It will be titled Journey Into Dusk and will be a sort of sci fi thriller about a teenager who realizes that he's not quite like everyone else. Last year I did a short video about an adventurer, Dave Valiant, who I intended to be a sort of Indiana Jones parody. Although I had a lot of fun making the video, much of the story was put together as I was filming. I realized that the story that I had in mind this time would take a bit of time to flesh out before I'd be ready to film. Over the past month I've edited a script, drawn storyboards for each shot, and have casted two of my fellow students and friends, Joe and Christian.
Here is an excerpt from the opening of the script:
FADE IN: Open on a darkly lit Kitchen. In the foreground in clear focus is a remote atop the kitchen counter. in the background is the closed front door.
The door suddenly swings open and our protagonist, Stephen, slouches in carrying a heavy bag of his school books.
long day of school...finally over!
(a bit out of breath)
He throws the backpack on the counter, picks up the remote and turns on the tv as he heads toward the fridge
Hello TV. How was your day sitting around and NOT listening to two lectures and NOT completely bombing a physics test you didn't spend three hours studying for?
TV is staticky for a few seconds before shimmering onto a clear image of THE JOURNEY INTO DUSK logo.
Day and Night. Good and Evil. Life and Death. There is a plane of existence that exists between all states of truths and their opposite
Stephen joins in to the tv voice. It is clear that he has watched a LOT of JOURNEY INTO DUSK.
It impossibly bridges contradicting and conflicting realities and opens a doorway to the land of mystery and the unknown. Come with us today as we JOURNEY INTO DUSK.
Journey Into Dusk is intentionally supposed have a Twilight Zone feel. I really enjoy the show so this is a bit of a love letter to it.
Lastly here is a look at some of the storyboards I've done.
